Witherite Law Group Awards $150,000 to Dunbar High School Seniors

Witherite Law Group and 1-800-TruckWreck awarded $150,000 in scholarships to 60 graduating seniors from Dunbar High School in Fort Worth through the 2024 Making a Difference Scholarship program.

Each recipient received a $2,500 scholarship to help cover expenses associated with continuing education. The scholarships were also eligible for annual renewal for students who maintained a 2.0 GPA and completed at least 12 credit hours.

The 2024 scholarship class represented a significant increase from the previous year, when 44 Dunbar High School students received awards. The expanded group reflected Witherite Law Group’s continued commitment to helping students pursue educational and career opportunities.

Amy Witherite created the Making a Difference Scholarship in 2016 to provide financial assistance to students who demonstrated leadership in their schools and communities. Witherite Law Group and 1-800-TruckWreck began working with Dunbar High School in 2014.

By the time of the 2024 presentation, the organizations had awarded 109 scholarships and funded 254 scholarship renewals across the schools supported by the program—an investment of approximately $850,000.

Amy Witherite explained that increasing education costs can make it difficult for students to begin or complete their studies.

“The rising cost of higher education is forcing some students to go straight to work and delay or forgo college altogether,” said Amy Witherite, founder of Witherite Law Group and 1-800-TruckWreck. “We have steadily increased our scholarship awards due to local need and economic pressures. Having financial resources to help with school gives students an opportunity to focus on academics, bettering their chance of completion and securing a fulfilling career.”

The scholarships were presented at Dunbar High School in May 2024. The awards recognized the students’ accomplishments while providing renewable financial support as the recipients prepared for their next educational steps.

Renewable scholarships can provide support beyond a student’s first year of continued education. Recipients who maintained a 2.0 GPA and completed at least 12 credit hours remained eligible to renew their awards annually, allowing the program to support students as they progressed toward completing their education.

The increase from 44 recipients in 2023 to 60 recipients in 2024 also expanded the scholarship program’s reach at Dunbar High School. By providing financial assistance to more graduating seniors, the program helped students manage education-related costs while remaining focused on their academic and career goals.

Through the Making a Difference Scholarship, Witherite Law Group and 1-800-TruckWreck continue working to reduce financial barriers and support students in the communities the organizations serve.
