‍Witherite Law Group Helps Distribute 1,200 Backpacks to Chicago Students

Witherite Law Group partnered with St. Sabina Church to help Chicago families prepare for the new school year during the Peace in the Streets summer block party.

The back-to-school event provided 1,200 free backpacks filled with school supplies to local students. Each child waiting in line received a backpack containing classroom essentials, helping families offset some of the additional expenses that accompany the beginning of a new school year.

The event offered more than school supplies. Families could also access complimentary haircuts from a mobile barbershop, along with food, yard games, bounce houses and other activities during the three-hour community celebration.

Providing several services in one place made the event more accessible for participating families. Students could receive school supplies and haircuts while families took part in a community celebration that included food and recreational activities.

The distribution of 1,200 backpacks also demonstrated the reach of the partnership between Witherite Law Group and St. Sabina Church. Each backpack represented one less back-to-school purchase for a participating household and helped ensure that students arrived at school with basic classroom materials.

Events that combine essential resources with family activities can help reduce financial pressure while creating a welcoming point of connection between residents and community organizations.

Amy Witherite explained that Witherite Law Group’s involvement reflected the firm’s commitment to supporting the communities it serves.

“We want to reach into communities where our clients come from, and we want to lift up whole communities,” Witherite said.

The giveaway helped reduce back-to-school costs for participating families while providing students with supplies they could use in the classroom. CBS Chicago documented the event through both a written story and a broadcast video featuring the backpack distribution at St. Sabina Church.
