Atlanta High School Bands Receive $85,000 Through Great Atlanta Band Challenge

Ten metro Atlanta high school bands received a combined $85,000 through the fifth annual Great Atlanta Band Challenge, sponsored by 1-800-TruckWreck, powered by Witherite Law Group, in partnership with Hot 107.9 and Majic 107.5/97.5.

The competition drew 62 entries from high school bands across the Atlanta area. The annual program gives student musicians an opportunity to showcase their talent while competing for funding that can support instruments, uniforms, travel and other essential band-program expenses.

South Gwinnett High School earned first place and received $20,000. Griffin High School and Douglas County High School placed second and third, with each school receiving $15,000.

Seven additional finalists received $5,000 each: Dutchtown High School, Stockbridge High School, Riverdale High School, Miller Grove High School, Westlake High School, South Cobb High School and Creekside High School.

The three highest-ranking schools were recognized during campus check presentations held on October 24, 2025. The presentations brought together students, faculty members and community partners to recognize the participating musicians and their band programs.

The Great Atlanta Band Challenge was created to celebrate the talent, discipline and dedication of high school musicians while helping schools address the financial needs of their music programs. By awarding funding to all 10 finalists, the initiative expanded its support beyond the three top-ranking schools.

Through the Great Atlanta Band Challenge, 1-800-TruckWreck and Witherite Law Group continue working with local media and community partners to support music education and create opportunities for Atlanta-area students.
