PURPOSE The mission of the Making a Difference Scholarship Fund is to provide financial assistance to individuals enrolled for undergraduate study in community colleges, trade schools and universities. The Making a Difference Scholarship principally targets two and four year academic programs; however, certificate/licensing programs including but not limited to fields such as paralegal training, Information Technology, ultrasound techs, medical records personnel, are also eligible.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE is based on financial need, academic performance, leadership potential, and community service projects.

Witherite Law Group – $2,500 Scholarships

The Making A Difference committee awards scholarships based on a comprehensive process. Areas that are reviewed by the committee include, but are not limited to the following: Academic Accomplishments, Community Service, References, Personal Essay and Financial Need. The Making a Difference Scholarship committee pays scholarship funds directly to the recipient’s educational institution upon confirmation of enrollment. Scholarships are awarded without regard to race, color, ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation. Scholarships awarded are based upon the availability of funds and additional qualifying criteria.

CRITERIA

  • Applicants must be a current senior at a Chicago high school.
  • Applicants must have a minimum unweighted GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Applicants must be accepted as a part or full time student at a college, university, or trade school program for the upcoming academic semester.
  • Applicants must demonstrate a need for financial assistance.
  • Applicants must have demonstrated community service within his/her school or community.
  • Student must apply for the 2023-20234 Federal Student Aid Application (FAFSA or TASFA).
  • Student must submit a copy of their 2023-2024 Student Aid Report (SAR).
  • Applicants must complete and submit a Scholarship Application by March 31, 2023.
  • Qualifying applicants must attend assigned interview.
  • Scholarship recipients must be willing to maintain a 2.5 GPA to while enrolled in college.
  • Minimum hourly requirement per semester at academic, vocational or technical school: 6 hours.

TIMELINE

  • Applications are due March 31, 2023.
  • Candidates that are eligible for interviews will be notified by the Scholarship Committee by April 15, 2023.
  • If awarded a scholarship, candidates will be notified by June 1, 2023.

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICANTS MUST PROVIDE

  • Completed application form.
  • Copy of high school transcript.
  • Two references from a guidance counselor, teacher, employer or other community member.
  • A One-page narrative telling us about yourself. Briefly express your goals and aspirations, volunteer or leadership activities, work experience, academic and/or personal achievements, personal and family situation as well as your reasons for applying for this scholarship.
  • Proof of acceptance at an academic, vocational or technical school for post-secondary studies.
  • Demonstrated financial need.
  • A copy of your ACT or SAT score sheet on official high school transcript is required.

Deadline for the application is Friday, March 31, 2023. Applications postmarked after this date will not be considered.
